What the Tatas spend in a day at Dhamra is more than Greenpeace's annual campaigning budget
In three days, General Motors spends the equivalent of Greenpeace's global annual budget. In two days, British Petroleum makes more in profit than Greenpeace receives in donations in a year. And in just one day, the Tatas earn 100 times more than what Greenpeace's 45,000 Indian supporters give in an entire year.In other words, we live in a world where environmental Ramas and corporate Ravanas have never been more unevenly matched. And yet, Greenpeace can make Hindustan Unilever shut down its deadly factory in Kodaikanal and send every last gram of its mercury waste back to the US. Greenpeace can persuade Wipro and HCL to clean up their toxic act, and push the entire electronics industry towards clean production. Greenpeace can turn around a French aircraft carrier contaminated with 1,000 tonnes of asbestos, and send it right back to where it came from. What is all this? This is the power of truth, creativity, non-violence and direct action, overcoming the awesome power of corporations. And to stop the Tata's destructive port in Dhamra, that's just what we need now.But more than that, we need funds, because it takes more than courage and determination to take on India's most powerful corporation. It's true that the Tatas can outspend us in 60 seconds flat, but to ensure they can't stop our campaign to protect the Olive Ridley Turtles, we need your support. Please give whatever little you can.
PS: Greenpeace doesn't accept money from corporations. We never have and never will. This allows us to confront them without fear. To keep us financially independent, please become a monthly supporter.
